What is PENETRON?
PENETRON is a surface-applied, integral crystalline waterproofing material designed to waterproof and protect concrete in-depth.
It consists of Portland cement, specially treated quartz sand and active chemicals. When PENETRON is applied to a properly prepared concrete surface, its active chemicals react with moisture and the by-products of cement hydration to generate an insoluble crystalline structure within the concrete.
These crystals penetrate and fill concrete’s capillary tracts, pores and minor shrinkage cracks, helping prevent further water ingress—even under hydrostatic pressure—while still allowing vapor to pass through the structure so the concrete can “breathe.”
PENETRON remains dormant within the concrete after curing and can reactivate when moisture is present, helping seal capillary tracts and hairline cracks.

Before Application
Surface Preparation
Before applying PENETRON, the concrete surface must be properly prepared and have an open capillary surface.
- Remove laitance, dirt and grease.
- Clean using high-pressure water jetting, wet sandblasting or wire brushing as appropriate.
- Chase out defective concrete, cracks and honeycombed areas.
- Repair defective areas using the appropriate repair system.
- Thoroughly pre-water the concrete before application.
- Keep the concrete damp before application, but avoid leaving a wet sheen on the surface.
Correct surface preparation is essential for penetration of PENETRON’s active chemicals into the concrete.
Mixing Procedure
How to Mix PENETRON
Mix PENETRON mechanically with clean water until a creamy, thick-oil-like consistency is achieved. Prepare only the quantity that can be used within approximately 20 minutes and stir frequently during use. If the mixture starts to set, do not add additional water. Re-stir the material to restore workability.

Application Method
PENETRON Application
PENETRON can be applied in slurry consistency using a masonry brush or suitable power-spray equipment. Depending on the specification, apply one or two coats. When two coats are required, the second coat should be applied while the first coat is still “green.”
For horizontal fresh concrete applications, PENETRON may also be applied in dry-powder consistency and troweled into the concrete after initial set.

Curing & Protection
Post-Treatment
After application, treated areas should be kept damp for five days.
- Protect treated surfaces against direct sunlight.
- Protect against strong wind.
- Protect against frost.
- Polyethylene sheeting, damp burlap or similar materials may be used during curing.
